CATCH OF THE DAY

Kingfisher

All I saw was a flash of iridescent blue and a burst of orange, then it was gone.

AZURE JACK

Jackdaw

Eating my lunch one day when a Jackdaw landed in my garden.  It turned and caught the sunlight, lighting up its feathers an unforgettable kaleidoscope of different blues.

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY

Pheasant

My dogs were walking me through the parkland one day.  There was a shoot happening on the farside, down in the valley.  Two pheasants popped out of the undergrowth near by, bolting past me, away from the shoot with rather smug expressions on their faces. Crafty little birds.

WATCHING FOR SPRING

Hare

Early, frosty morning on the edge of winter.  I was surprised to see some hares in the fields.  We tend to run into each other on bright spring mornings.
I think we're both waiting for the Mad March air.

ROCKET ROOSTER

Cockerel

One afternoon, I was walking one of my dogs in the peaceful parkland.  Suddenly the silence was shattered by a noise in the distance.  A cockerel came sprinting across the grass and fields a little way ahead of us, crowing at the top of its lungs, at two in the afternoon!  It disappeared into the woods but we could still hear him as he ran for the horizon.

KING OF THE NORTH

Stag

I am fortunate because there are a lot of different types of wildlife around where I live.
Sometimes I am even lucky enough to meet one of these majestic, magnificent creatures.

TWO FOR JOY

Magpies

Magpies are quite often misunderstood.  While there are superstitions that say they bring misfortune, a lot of cultures around the world see them as harbingers of good luck and fortune.

NOBODY'S FOOL

Fox

I was driving along a back road one day when a fox jumped out of bushes onto the road in front on me.  Thankfully I was able to avoid it as it loped to other side.  I managed to stop and a get a good look at it.
The cheeky devil had stopped up on the verge, sat down and was just looking at me like it knew it was being mischevious.

RUNNING WILD

Horse - Lipizzaner

Always nice to see one of these beautiful and powerful animals canter past you along your road when out for a stroll.
